Five Best Console Games of All Time

That's right folks name your five most favoritest consol games of all time. PC games are not acceptable for this thread. Seing as how H2 on PC vs tetris on Gameboy would be unfair.

Atari and apple IIc are acceptable since my watch has more memory than those things.

So here goes for me. (Don't have an XBox cause I hate Microsoft)

FInal Fantasy 4 on Super Nintendo (Best early RPG)
Perfect Dark on N64 (best FPS, Halo/2 is cool but not enough missions)
Conker's Bad Fur Day on N64 (Funniest game evAr)
GTA: San Andreas on PS2 (Hot Coffee ARMAX mod, plus all around mahem)
Xenosaga "Der Wil Zer Mact (SP)" PS2 (best single player RPG to date)

Now have at it -->

Feel free to be more nostalgic than teh famicon.
Your Dork,
SFW

I really agree with Ninja Gaiden, Street Fighter 2 and Zelda. Never played chrono but always heard about it.

MarioKart was best in SNES. Goldeneye is of course a whole meep of a lot of fun but doesn't pass the oldies.

AcheronDCS: (1) Never played chrono but always heard about it. (2) MarioKart was best in SNES.

(1) DUDE! You got to play Chrono Trigger. Get yourself an emulator and a ROM dump ASAP.

Okay - this is for console but my serious gaming days were back in the Amiga days. meep most people thought of it as a console anyway (it was a kickass puter and I learned C on it) So I'm listin'em

1: Speedball-2 Bitmap Bros - Amiga 2: Lemmings, DMA Design 3: Turrican 2, cant remember (awsome 7(8?) track audio) 4: Xenon 2, Bitmap Bros 5: Hunter, cant remember (the first realy cool 3D game as far as I'm concerned)

Anyone play a game called Echo on SEGA???

It was real strange, you were like a dolhpin or something. Anyway, I really enjoyed that too.

i hated ecco the dolphin. now i hate it all over again. thanks.

I remember it having the best graphics for a SEGA game at the time..

Or is my memory skewed???

TheOrderLeader: I remember it having the best graphics for a SEGA game at the time.. Or is my memory skewed???

probably not. it was a long time ago. i'm sure the graphics weren't the reason i hated it. it was likely the fact that dolphins were the cute and squeaky poster-critters for peta people, and poorly airbrushed on every third t-shirt. also, wasn't the whole game just a version of the underwater levels of sonic the hedgehog?

Now that you say it, it was pretty much jsut a touched up underwater Sonic...

Heh, those levels were always my favorite...

I got an Atari 2600 for Christmas when I was 13. My big brother's idiot girlfriend took me for a ride to the corner store and said, "I know what your mom is getting your for Christmas. I'll tell you if you tell me what Sean's getting me."

I told her that I had seen my brother showing a circular with rings on it and asking advice on them from big sis and Grandmother.

She told me about the Atari.

Come Christmas, she opened her gift from my brother and it was a beautiful sweater. She asked where the ring was. meep.

Huge scandal. He eventually made good on the ring promise and married this bafoon and I still have a family rep of not being trustworthy with a secret.

Now, now, Vas. You're not being objective, just trying to be old-skool. I mean, I could also bring up Metal Gear I on the MSX platform, Montezuma's Revenge on the Atari (which rocks out to this day btw), etc., but the truth of the matter is that quite a few better games have been released since then.

I'm positive you're right. I just haven't played them.

The XBox is the first console I've owned since I managed somehow to get my hands on an SNES, which got far less play than my NES. It wasn't until two years ago that I had a PC capable of playing anything more taxing than Quake II, and not until three or four months ago that I had a video card faster than a Voodoo II and a Windows partition to play them on.

I'm just not a big gamer. Besides, games are way different now. I loved the meep out of Splinter Cell 3 and Thief 3 on the Xbox, but they're nothing like, say, Impossible Mission on the C64 in that there's no real mystery or adventure. It's more like dexterity tests than anything.

Anyway, these are what come to mind as the games I'll always still want to play (possible exception of Karateka, which I remain fond of anyway). SFW might have titled the thread "Best" but his post makes it clear it's meant to be subjective -- and, in fact, nostalgic.

Therefore, go meep self, or ante up, you kvetchy red.

Rygar, Karnov and Goonies on NES

Critical Depth and Krazy Ivan on PS2

These complete my top 10 favorites of all time.

Wish I did. I've been trying to find a good nintendo emulator for a few years without any luck

A nintentdo emulator? That's easy...

Every emulator from Atari to Sega CD. A plethora of ROMS, too.

Say... would this be a good link to submit to the main site? Worth a try, I suppose...

Now find a C64 or Intellivision emulator that doesn't have the most fuked-up, non-intuitive and undomeepented keymappings in the world, and I just may kiss you.

Rong! Chrono Trigger was best in SNES.

Chrono Trigger is the most kick meep RPG you'll ever play. The fights never got boring. The story is interesting. The graphics are (for the time period...) good. Play it now.

Any body remember Blasto for PS1?

I just ran across it in my pile of games and was remembering how much fun it was.

Slightly off topic:

Does any body know of a way to save PS1 games on a PS2. The games from PS1 are compatible but I can't get any of them to save to the chip.

what are you saying comrad.... as far as i'm aware you can already play the ps1 games on the ps2 console no? the chip makes it possiblski to play imports and copys and net downloads...

we're currently using a modded playstation to calculate the exact speed required to stay in orbit... it also plays streets of rage 1/2 and 3...

there's nothing like having a russki fling with horris and his ski-ing..(old skool spectrum cause the KGB wouldn't import the commodore for fears of a rebellion using western teknologies.. which was when i enrolled into the space program in a vain vodka driven attempt to lay my paws on a gameboy or at the very least a nintendo donkey kong hand held).

oh the hours of downhill snow run fun mixed up with some phat meep kicking in the streets... reminds me of home comrads... (attempts to wipe tear away from eye but forgetting that the goddamm-o-vich visor is always down.)

and as for the tomy electronic hand held with tanks and racing cars and shark hunting, superrrb comrads.. superrrb.

any other electronic - non computer based games that anyone else playdski?

ohh comrad.. early eyes that have been doused in the suns radiation for far too long have just spotted that you actually want to save the games to yourr chipski...

i apologise for being a space bound monkey's meep.

you can get a harrd-drrive for the ps2 and storre it all on therre.. don't ask me wherre though as i'm in space.

but while i'm at it... and the vodka... bio hazard battle on the mega drrrive/genesis closely followed by some meep kickin LHX attack chopper from electronic arts and some ghost and ghouls on the sneszinki. oh and of course mario cart.. i mean come on.. lightning, red shells and balloon that pop on your enemies when you send a homing shell their way... ahhhhh dashbin-danggleyar hoi!

Mario Karts (snes) super ghost and ghouls (snes) jet set willy (commodore 64) Counter-Strike (ps1) Master olympus zeus (pc)

No, now with the help of a modem and a phone line, you run your dignity right into them.

^__^

At the "pearly gates" of the swarm the sign read,"all your dignity are belong to us,place them in the box and proceed."

my top:

Tetris (Original Gameboy) - Best version of Tetris, and portable to boot. I still play it on my GBA.

Super Mario 2 (NES) Nothing like it before or since - truely an original

Prince of Persia: Sands of TIme (PS2/GC/Xbox/PC) Georgeus game, excellent play. I think time will agree with me on this.

Rayman 2 (PSX/N64/Dreamcast/PC) One of the best platformers ever made. Better than Mario64 IMHO.

Blaster Master (NES) I still break this one out occasionally too. Large maps & constant challenges make this one still fun.

I have to admit, I never owned a SNES, and I only have limited play on the newer consoles. but these are the games i can see myself going back to and playing again. i think the NES generation of games has almost more replay value, given that it doesn't take 20+ hours to complete most of them like most modern games. the fact that i can go back and play through the game in an evening or two has some appeal. In my mind, to be the best game of all time, it has to mean i would want to play though it again and again years later. most games i don't want to play through the 20+ hours it takes to go through them again. i just don't have enough time.

Honorable Mentions:

Ninja Gaiden (NES) - The first is always the best. on of the first action games with a storyline, which really made it memorable. Utopia (NES) - little known game that came out at the end of the NES's life Bionic Commando (NES) - a man with a bionic arm, and you get to blow up hitler? what else do you need? Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2/PC) - ignore the story, the gameplay and visuals are great. i haven't played MGS3 - it may be better Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (GC/PS2/XBOX/PC) - almost replaced SOT, but couldn't do it becasue of the music. cawk rock down't belong in an arabesque setting, k? Other than that it's my favorite for the year. Looking forward to number 3 in this series later this year, which may eventually replace SOT in my top 5. Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64) - once you wraped your head around the time travel bit, it became a very rich and fun game.
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) - one of the best zeldas still Zelda: Wind Waker (GC) - for the great stylized look. would have made the top 5 if it weren't for all the meep sailing Super Mario64 (N64) - Still fun, enough said. Super Mario Sunshine (GC) - fun, but the watergun/jetpack makes it lose that "mario" feel. And coin collecting is tedious. Rez (DC/PS2) - Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out, and Play Rez.
